Every racecar needs a protective skin or liner installed on the floor to protect metal components from burning up and the driver from easy fatigue. 1^ST THIS SKIN NEEDS TO BE BLOW-TORCH APPROVED what we mean by this is if it can take a 1000 degree F. torch test for 5 minutes it is perfect for the floor. With this test it can take a 500 lap race. This skin or liner should be installed immediately after the new paint has been added to the outside of the racecar. We suggest Koolmat Insulation and it should be laid down (riveted in place) before any other objects or holes are cut into the car. If installed correctly so no holes are open in critical areas this layer of skin (Koolmat) will stop any future penetration of fire or heat into the car through the steering column or trany shifter area. A blown seal can start a fire quickly and push the fire through the steering area if not protected with this skin. (If you think you have a good material test it 1^st with fire before installing it in this area, a poor material will burn up in seconds) Once the thin 0.70 layer is put into place with rivets and secured properly (so the foot can not pick up on a section) then you can mount or cut any holes through the Koolmat Insulation. An additional air pocket (not aluminum-see Heatbuster panel ) can be mounted to the floor on top of the Koolmat. Koolmat (a protective skin) will keep out extreme unwanted heat and protect from any fire penetrating thru a hole left in the floor by construction. At this point once the floor insulation is riveted down (a must to cover; firewall/floor/tunnel/trany top) now start plans for the rivets on the floor you want to be used to snap in any padding later requested by the driver. Any holes can be cut through the Koolmat to install steering, trany, seat, etc. Once the mechanical items are installed you can snap in floor padding in place. Koolmat can be used to wrap around the oil tank, inside of the drivers seat between seat belt restraints, oil filter, protective layer under the ignition box (they last a lot longer insulated), wrap a floor air box etc.

How Koolmat came into this market!
Koolmat came into play when Pat Hill worked for an Ohio company in the early 90’s making header wrap. With customers requesting a floor insulation while ordering she believing there was a hole in the market she ended up at an ARCA race and burnt her hand on the floor of a car. A light bulb went off in her head and  she thought  that a new product was needed and this is how Koolmat was invented. It would fill a need and she knew it had to be taken one step higher than a glued-aluminum 450⁰ insulation but beneath a  high end 3000⁰ insulation that was not weather-resistant. She needed a product that would hold back the heat and stay warm to the bare hand touch. Koolmat’s cured material fell in this range because it was cooked to 1000⁰ deg F. Koolmat Insulation would later prove to fill a large cap unnoticed by the market. When low range glued products reached their peak for heat the glues would burn-off at 450⁰ deg. F. So Koolmat would take their place in the middle at 1000⁰ F. Koolmat had staying power! This insulation could be left in the car and passed to the new buyers and used for another 20 years if taken care of by other teams.
