Model A KoolMat Installation

Model A Trader Magazine recently showed a KoolMat installation done by Lou Tull in his '28 Tudor Sedan. 
Tull began the installation by creating paper templates. The patterns were made slightly oversize to ensure a complete seal when the parts were installed.
Templates were transferred to the KoolMat using chalk to outline the paper pattern and any necessary access holes. The material was then cut to size with a sharp utility knife.
After checking for fit, Tull bonded the fiberglass side of the KoolMat to the floorboard with silicone adhesive applied around the edges.
The same basic procedure was followed in covering the upper floorboard. Again, additional material was provided to ensure complete sealing of the floorboard and steering column openings.
Using several smaller pieces to follow the contours, Tull bonded the remaining KoolMat to the firewall as a barrier against engine heat. This completed the seal in the upper floorboard and firewall area.
Using the battery cover plate as a template, an access hole was carefully cut into the KoolMat.
Lou put KoolMat to the test on a recent 250 mile Penn-Ohio tour. The temperature inside the Tudor was 40 Deg. F at the start and according to Tull..."The interior never warmed up! The floorboards got hot, as expected, but the top of the floormat remained cool to the touch." As Lou's companion commented, "It looks like KoolMat is a real winner!"
